happy presidents day

I read my cousins blog this morning and had to laugh because I could have written nearly the same exact thing.

We too spent today as a leisurely day. For my cousin, she had work off in honor of a holiday that few people actually celebrate. Yes presidents day really is a holiday, specifically one that grouped together a couple presidents birthdays so we could honor them. But despite being the history geek that I am, I usually just see today as most do--a welcome day away from work.

Except that I don't work anymore. Other than being a mom. So today was a lazy and leisurely day because I felt unmotivated to do anything else. Daddy had to work today but even given the chance, he doesn't really do lazy days. He fills his free time with projects, errands and the endless list of honey-dos. He is so good to me. So while he was busy at work, we took a holiday for him. Ironically, my tax return came today (on a government/bank holiday).

We spent the morning playing and unpacking. We put together puzzles and had a picnic tea party for lunch. During naptime I paid bills and took a nap myself. After naps, we cuddled and shared snacks (most of which ended up inside Ladybug's sleeper, apparently for the sole reason that it was funny). Then Butterfly playfully launched herself at me and landed on my growing belly (for the second time in two days). She felt so bad she cried at my reaction of pain and was a very repentant and devoted nurse for the next few hours while the soreness subsided. She insisted I needed medicine and was happy to comply when I said her kisses were the best medicine. We cuddled for a movie and finally showered and dressed around 4. We read lots of books and generally spent the day cuddling, playing and being lazy. It was wonderful. Grandma and grandpa joined us for dinner and the post dinner popcorn/cartoon cuddle. And now the house is quiet again, ready for a good nights sleep.

Happy presidents day.
