With Ladybug's quickly approaching birthday, we celebrated with a fun milestone--her first hair cut.
Both of my girls were born with a lot of hair (although completely different textures). Butterfly's seem to grow much faster though and by her second birthday, she desperately needed a trim to get rid of the wispy baby strands and allow her curls to form more evenly. Ladybug's hair has not grown as quickly in length and we debated if it was necessary. It's not very long yet but it's definitely uneven and always looks unkempt due to the wispy baby pieces.
There's an old wive's tale that cutting a baby's hair more frequently will help it grow faster or thicker. I personally don't understand how that would work but I do agree that trimming off the baby hair, which is wispy and fine, can make a child's hair look significantly healthier by bringing it all to a more similar length and texture.
So yesterday, I took both girls to the salon I use. Ladybug got to go first and loved the drape that the stylist wrapped around her. It was covered in tigers and bright red flowers. She sat very still, watching with big curious eyes. Her haircut went quickly (since it was just a matter of evening it out a bit) and she happily received her sucker when she was finished. Then Butterfly climbed into the chair. This was only her third haircut but she had begged to go. She loves to have her hair played with and knew this is a big deal. So she sat and chatted with the stylist, telling her about Rapunzel getting her hair cut and that she likes to wear her hair in ponytails or long with a flower.
And so we mark off another milestone that my baby girls are getting bigger. :)/:(
